173 people still missing due to Diṭwah

The Disaster Management Centre says that 173 people remain missing as a result of the disaster situation that arose in the country following Cyclone Ditwah. Sixty-nine people are reported missing from the Kandy District, while 38 people are missing from the Kegalle District. Issuing a report relevant to January 25, the Centre stated that 32 people are missing from the Nuwara Eliya District. The Centre further stated that 649 people have lost their lives due to the disaster, with the highest number of fatalities reported from the Kandy District at 243. In addition, 89 people have died in the Badulla District and 81 people in the Nuwara Eliya District. Meanwhile, the Disaster Management Centre also said that 6,680 people are still being accommodated at 85 safe shelters.
