1st lunar eclipse of 2026 to be visible in SL today
2026-03-03 - 03:28
The first lunar eclipse visible from Sri Lanka in 2026 can be observed today (March 03), according to the Chairman of the Arthur C. Clarke Institute for Modern Technologies (ACCIMT) – Prof. Chandana Jayaratne. The Institute noted that although the phenomenon is a total lunar eclipse, it will be visible in Sri Lanka only as a partial eclipse, as the Moon will be below the horizon during the total phase. According to the ACCIMT, the optimal viewing time will be at 6.21 p.m., when the Moon rises above the eastern horizon, at which point it will already be partially obscured by the Earth’s shadow. The Institute further emphasized that clear visibility will depend on an unobstructed view of the eastern horizon and favourable weather conditions without cloud cover.
