2 arrested with ‘Kush’ worth over Rs. 100 mn. at BIA

Two Sri Lankans were arrested this morning (March 26) at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), Katunayake, by the officers of the Customs Narcotic Control Unit for attempting to smuggle a consignment of ‘Kush’. The suspects were apprehended while attempting to exit via the ‘Green Channel’ designated for passengers with no goods to declare. Upon inspection, officials uncovered 10 kg and 476 g of ‘Kush’ concealed in 12 packets across 04 luggage. The seized narcotics are estimated to have a street value of Rs. 104.76 million. One of the suspects (25) has been identified as an employee at a clothing store, while the other suspect (26) works as a driver. Both suspects are residents of the Bogawantalawa area. Investigations have revealed that the drugs were purchased in Bangkok, with the suspects travelling via New Delhi before arriving at BIA at around 5.20 a.m. today on board Air India flight AI-3203. The suspects have been handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) for further investigations.
