Two containers carrying tiles collapsed yesterday (Feb. 18) while being unloaded at the Jaya Container Terminal (JCT) of the Colombo Port, destroying their contents. According to the Sri Lanka Ports Authority, each container held 2,250 boxes of tiles. The consignment had reportedly been imported from India by a local importer. The incident occurred while the cargo was being discharged using a gantry crane. Reports indicate that the accident was caused by the loosening of the lock attached to the container from the crane. No injuries were reported among port personnel. However, it is said that tiles valued at several million rupees were destroyed due to the collapse.
