422 drunk-drivers arrested during daily police operations

Sri Lanka Police state that, in accordance with daily search and inspection operations, a total of 27,430 individuals were checked yesterday (06). Issuing a statement, the police said that 524 persons were arrested on suspicion during these operations. In addition, 14 individuals who were directly identified in connection with criminal offences were also taken into custody. The statement further noted that 309 persons wanted on warrants and 156 persons with open warrants were arrested as a result of these search operations. During the course of these operations, 422 motorists were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, while 79 drivers were taken into police custody for reckless driving. Meanwhile, legal action has been initiated against 4,826 individuals in connection with other traffic offences, according to the statement issued by the Sri Lanka Police.
