7 bus drivers and conductors arrested for drug use

Seven private bus drivers and conductors were arrested for allegedly using drugs while on duty. The arrests were made during an operation targeted at private buses departing from and passing through Piliyandala Bus Stand. The drivers and conductors were tested for drug consumption during inspections conducted inside a specially equipped bus from the National Transport Medical Institute. A total of 170 drivers and conductors were screened during the operation, which was carried out jointly by the Piliyandala Police and the National Transport Medical Institute, Nugegoda Branch, nearly 05 hours. The inspections covered buses operating on the following routes: Route 120: Kesbewa – Pettah Route 255: Mount Lavinia – Kottawa Route 162: Piliyandala – Bandaragama Route 341: Piliyandala – Maharagama Route 341/2: via Karadiyana – Maharagama Route 342: Piliyandala – Kottawa Route 157: Kahapola – Piliyandala Route 157/1: Piliyandala – Makandana The arrested suspects are to be produced before the Kesbewa Magistrate’s Court. Further investigations are underway.
