AAIB begins damage assessment to compensate crop damage during 2025/26 ‘Maha Season’

The Agricultural and Agrarian Insurance Board (AAIB) has commenced damage assessment activities in affected districts to facilitate compensation for farmers impacted during the 2025/2026 Maha season. According to the AAIB, field officers from district offices have begun evaluating the extent of crop damage. Assessments are currently underway in Polonnaruwa, Badulla, and Anuradhapura, and are expected to be completed shortly, AAIB noted. The AAIB added that following the conclusion of inspections, the Department of Agrarian Development will provide recommendations, after which the AAIB will release compensation promptly, based on the verified extent of losses.
