Advisory issued over hot weather conditions

An advisory has been issued regarding hot weather conditions expected in several parts of the island. Accordingly, the Department of Meteorology stated in a notice that the heat index, the temperature felt on the human body, in some areas of the Western Province, Sabaragamuwa Province, North Western Province and the Monaragala District may reach levels that require attention. The Department further noted that the public should exercise greater caution, as prolonged exposure to sunlight and engagement in strenuous activities could result in fatigue. It also warned that continued physical activity may lead to dehydration and muscle cramps. People are therefore advised to drink sufficient amounts of water, wear white or light-coloured, loose clothing, and remain in shaded areas where possible.
