Airfares set to rise amid surge in aviation fuel costs

Local airlines have increased their fuel charges following a sharp rise in global aviation fuel prices. Managing Director of Ceylon Petroleum Storage Terminals Limited (CPSTL) – Mayura Neththikumarage explained that the increase was driven by the ongoing Middle East conflict, pushing aviation fuel prices from USD 93.57 per barrel on Feb. 27 to USD 209 per barrel. Meanwhile, the Deputy Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation – Janitha Ruwan Kodithuwakku, confirmed that the rise in fuel costs will result in higher airline ticket prices in Sri Lanka.
