Approval to detain & quizz Akuregoda twin murder suspect (Update)

The Homagama Divisional Crime Investigation Unit states that approval has been granted to detain and question for 90 days, a person believed to be the gunman arrested in connection with the killing of attorney Buddhika Mallawaarachchi and his wife in the Thalangama Akuregoda area. Under the powers vested by the Prevention of Terrorism Act, approval has been obtained to detain and interrogate the suspect for a period of 90 days. Acting on information received, a group of police officers, including Officer-in-Charge of the Homagama Divisional Crime Investigation Branch, Police Inspector Amila Govinna, conducted surveillance in a cinnamon estate in the Deldhuwa area of Ambalangoda. The suspect was arrested when he arrived at the house where he had been staying. Questioning has revealed that the suspect had been hiding in the cinnamon estate and would come to the house only at night to sleep.
