Former Minister – Arjuna Ranatunga and former Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) Chairman – Dhammika Ranatunga were served indictments today (March 23) before the Colombo High Court over a corruption charge. Then the court ordered both defendants to be released on 02 surety bonds of Rs. 05 million each and scheduled a pre-trial conference on May 15. The indictment alleges that the defendants caused a loss of nearly Rs. 800 million to the CPC by canceling 03 long-term fuel tenders that were scheduled to be used to purchase fuel for the country for a period of six months in 2017-2018 and replacing them with 27 spot tenders at higher prices, and that they aided and abetted this action.
