Ash Wednesday falls today

Today (Feb. 18) marks Ash Wednesday, resonating the holy words of the Bible : “For dust you are, and to dust you shall return.” (Genesis 3:19). Holy Masses are being held at churches across the island, during which ashes are applied to the foreheads of the faithful as part of the liturgical tradition. Ash Wednesday also marks the commencement of Lent, a sacred season during which Christians reflect on the suffering, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Observed over 40 days, Lent is traditionally a period of self-denial, repentance, and spiritual reflection in preparation for Easter.
