Foreign media have reported that the United States has carried out a bombing attack on Kharg Island, which is considered Iran’s main crude oil export terminal. The United States has confirmed that strikes were carried out on every military target on Kharg Island. The small island, which is about five miles in length, is located roughly 15 nautical miles off the Iranian coast. Kharg Island is regarded as the country’s primary crude oil export terminal and is often referred to as the “lifeline of Iran’s oil”. Iran exports about 90% of its crude oil through this island. In addition, China, Iran’s largest buyer of oil, also receives its oil shipments from this island. Accordingly, foreign reports say that any attack on Kharg Island could have a serious impact on the Iranian economy. Those reports also stated that Donald Trump is considering sending special forces to capture the island.
