Buhari Fathima loses municipal councillor position

Mohamed Buhari Fathima Sohara, a member of the Colombo Municipal Council, has lost her position as a municipal councillor. This follows a decision by the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress to suspend her party membership after she voted in favour of the Budget, contrary to party instructions. Accordingly, the Returning Officer of the Colombo Municipal Council, Ms Piumi Artigala, has issued a Gazette notification annulling her position.
