Cannabis haul worth over Rs. 10 million seized from forest reserve

A stock of cannabis valued at nearly Rs. 14 million has been seized by the Sri Lanka Army from a forest reserve in the Ilukpelessa protected area in Haldummulla. The seizure was made yesterday (23) during a special raid carried out by the Army based on information received by its intelligence unit. According to the Army, the raid was conducted jointly with officers from the Haldummulla Police, the Bandarawela Police Division Criminal Investigation Unit, and the Special Task Force. During the operation, around 140 kilogrammes of cannabis, packed in sacks and prepared for sale, were recovered. The value of the seized narcotics is estimated at approximately Rs. 15 million. Further investigations into the incident are being carried out by the Haldummulla Police.
