The Colombo High Court today (Feb. 05) postponed the order on preliminary objections in the case filed by the Attorney General against former ministers Mahindananda Aluthgamage and Nalin Fernando, and retired Major General Nanda Mallawaarachchi, until March 25. The case relates to the alleged misuse of public funds amounting to over Rs. 53 million through the unlawful procurement and distribution of 14,000 carrom boards and 11,000 draughts (checkers) boards to sports clubs during the 2015 Presidential Election period. The defendants, who are currently in remand custody, were produced before the court by prison officials for today’s proceedings. Although the High Court had been scheduled to deliver its order on the preliminary objections today, High Court Judge Buddhika C. Ragala informed the court that the ruling will instead be delivered on March 25.
