CEB TUs announce 6-hr token strike ; Customs TU action continues

The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) trade unions have announced a 06-hour token strike today (Feb. 26) over 08 unresolved demands. The unions stated that despite repeatedly raising their concerns with authorities, no solutions have been provided so far. The Chairman of the CEB Electrical Technicians’ Union – Kosala Abeysinghe, said the token strike will be conducted island-wide from 12.00 noon to 6.00 pm today. Meanwhile, the Customs Trade Union Alliance noted that decisions on future actions will depend on the outcome of today’s discussions with the Deputy Minister of Finance regarding their demands. Vice President of the union – Geethanjana Madapatha, added that the ongoing TU action, in which officers perform duties wearing black armbands, which began on Feb. 24, is still in effect.
