CEB workers who neglect duties to face disciplinary action

Two newly established power sector companies have instructed electricity workers to report to work and continue performing duties as usual to ensure uninterrupted power supply. The directive was issued through a statement by the Electricity Distribution Lanka (Private) Limited and the National Transmission Network Service Provider (Private) Limited. The companies emphasized that, following the declaration of electricity supply services as essential services through a gazette, employees are legally required to maintain a continuous electricity supply. Failing to perform assigned duties is considered a serious offence under the Essential Services Regulations, and disciplinary action may be taken against non-compliant staff. Employees have been instructed to immediately carry out all duties assigned within the electricity supply service. The companies also noted that the process of issuing appointment letters to all employees is ongoing and will be completed in the near future. Meanwhile, widespread power outages were reported yesterday (March 10) in many areas, including Gampaha, Kalutara, Ratnapura, Beruwala, Puttalam, and Anuradhapura. Over 12,000 power outages occurred across the island due to a trade union action initiated by the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) TUs.
