Computer system at Immigration dept. restored

The Department of Immigration and Emigration has announced that its computer system has been fully restored, with all operations returning to normal. Media Spokesman Mahesh Karunadasa stated that the issuance of passports and visas has resumed, along with urgent and essential document processing. He further noted that all branch offices of the Department are now operating as usual. The disruption occurred yesterday (Feb. 12) due to a sudden technical fault in the Department’s computer data system, temporarily halting operations across all branch offices. The Department had requested that the public who do not have urgent requirements postpone visiting the department to obtain passports until the following week. A special technical committee was mobilized to resolve the issue, and the Department confirmed that all services are now fully operational and functioning smoothly island-wide.
