The Court of Appeal has set aside the judgement delivered by the Colombo High Court, acquitting and releasing five accused, including members of the Navy, who had been charged in connection with the killing of former Tamil National Alliance MP Nadarajah Raviraj, a case that drew significant public attention, and ordered that the case be retried. This order was delivered by a bench of the Court of Appeal comprising Justices Sashi Mahendran and Amal Ranaraja. The ruling was issued following the hearing of an appeal filed by the Attorney General, challenging the Colombo High Court’s decision to acquit and release the accused.
