The Colombo Magistrate’s Court No. 6 today (02) ordered that charges be filed against prominent businessman and Chairman of Prestige Rubbers (Pvt) Ltd, Mr Shzni Kamardeen, along with three others who are currently in remand custody, over allegations that a woman employed as a child caregiver was stripped naked in front of household staff and that the incident was recorded and circulated on social media. The order was issued following submissions made by the Officer-in-Charge of the Children and Women Abuse Prevention and Investigation Division, Chief Inspector Nimalie Fonseka. Mr Kamardeen, a resident of Borella, and two other suspects, Mohamed Rasheed and Mohamed Hanifa of Eheliyagoda, who are alleged to have aided and abetted the offence, appeared before court today. The investigation relates to allegations that the suspect businessman subjected the domestic worker, who had been caring for his children, to death threats and inhumane sexual abuse, and subsequently disseminated video footage of the incident via social media. President’s Counsel Mr Anuja Premaratne appeared on behalf of the suspect. The case was ordered to be called again on the 26th. Meanwhile, it is reported that the complainant party has proposed a financial settlement to the victim in an attempt to resolve the matter.
