Customs officers launch TU action over unresolved issues

2026-02-24 - 05:06

The Customs Trade Union Alliance has decided to resort to trade union action starting today (Feb. 24), citing several unresolved requests, including promotions, that have remained pending for the past 06 years. The union stated that although these concerns had been raised with the relevant authorities on numerous occasions, no concrete solutions have been provided so far. Accordingly, Customs officers across all offices island-wide have decided to wear black armbands while carrying out their duties from today (Feb. 24) onwards. However, it is also reported that a special discussion involving the Ministry of Finance, the Public Service Commission, and several other parties is scheduled for Feb. 26 to address the issues. Depending on the outcome of this discussion, representatives of the Customs Trade Union Alliance are expected to meet again on Feb. 27 to decide on their future course of action.
