The touring England team beat Sri Lanka by 11 runs under the Duckworth–Lewis method in the first Twenty20 international played between the two sides. With this win, England took a 1–0 lead in the three-match T20 series. Due to rain, the match scheduled for yesterday (30) could not start on time and was reduced to 17 overs per side. Accordingly, after winning the toss and electing to field, England saw Sri Lanka, batting first, bowled out for 133 runs in 16.2 overs. Kusal Mendis scored 37 runs, while Pathum Nissanka contributed 23. For England, Adil Rashid and Sam Curran claimed three wickets each. Of note was Sam Curran’s three-wicket haul in the 16th over against Sri Lanka. In reply, England were on 125 for 4 in 16 overs when the match was halted.
