Fire breaks out in the Sri Pada Reserve

A sudden fire has broken out today (19) on a mountain ridge belonging to the Sri Pada Reserve, located opposite the summit of Sri Pada (Adam’s Peak). Reports indicate that the fire is spreading rapidly due to the prevailing severe dry weather and strong winds affecting the area. The location is an environmentally sensitive zone of exceptionally high biodiversity, home to rare wildlife species and plant ecosystems. Environmentalists warn that the current situation poses a serious threat to this valuable ecosystem and its living organisms. It is further reported that, as the fire has erupted on an extremely inaccessible mountain peak, no team has so far been able to reach the site to bring the blaze under control.
