Minister of Fisheries Ramalingam Chandrasekar has urged all fishermen in Sri Lanka not to engage in fishing activities beyond the country’s maritime boundaries. The Minister stated that the decision had been taken in view of the potentially dangerous situation prevailing within international maritime zones. He made these remarks in Parliament while commenting on the Iranian naval vessel that sank following an attack by the United States and another Iranian vessel currently positioned within Sri Lankan waters. An Iranian warship was sunk yesterday after the United States launched an attack with the assistance of a submarine in waters located beyond Sri Lanka’s maritime boundary. Accordingly, search operations are currently underway in that sea area.
