Foreign Minister Vijitha to visit Germany & Romania

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Vijitha Herath will undertake a visit to Germany from Feb. 26-27, 2026 to participate in a series of meetings related to trade and foreign employment, pursuant to an invitation extended by the German-Asia Pacific Business Association of Germany (OAV) Bremen Chapter. The Minister will attend the events related to the 125th Anniversary of the Bremen Chapter of the Asia Pacific Business Association as the Guest of Honor and Keynote Speaker from Asia, alongside the Foreign Minister of Germany Dr Johann Wadephul, who will participate as the Guest of Honor and Keynote Speaker from Germany. The OAV is the largest German association for the promotion of German-Asian business relationships and brings together German business leaders and policymakers focusing on the Asia-Pacific region. Minister Herath is also scheduled to have discussions with Minister Wadephul during the visit and participate in a business roundtable on Sri Lanka. In addition, Minister Herath will also undertake an official visit to Romania from March 01–03, 2026. During the visit, Minister Herath is scheduled to hold high-level discussions with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Labour, Family, Youth and Social Solidarity, and the Minister of Economy, Digitalization, Entrepreneurship & Tourism of Romania. The meetings will focus on matters of mutual interest with a view to further consolidating and enhancing the longstanding bilateral relations between the two countries across the spectrum. Particular emphasis will be placed on advancing structured labour mobility, strengthening institutional cooperation, and promoting safe, orderly, and regular migration. The two Ministers are scheduled to sign a bilateral Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the field of Labour. This Memorandum of Understanding will establish a formal framework for enhanced collaboration in the areas of labour and employment, ensuring that cooperation is undertaken in a transparent, regulated, and mutually beneficial manner.
