Fuel price hike drives coffin prices up by Rs. 3000

Funeral parlour owners stated that the price of a standard coffin has been increased by around Rs. 3,000, effective yesterday (March 22), citing rising fuel costs. They noted that increases in diesel and petrol prices have led to higher costs of raw materials and equipment used in coffin manufacturing, prompting the revision. However, coffins and related funeral services will continue to be provided at agreed rates for members of funeral aid societies. For deaths not covered under such societies, the minimum coffin and related services will now be offered at a starting price of Rs. 38,000, according to funeral parlour owners. They have further warned that any additional increases in fuel prices could lead to further upward revisions in coffin prices and service charges.
