Fuel to be pumped on a odd–even number plate basis

Owners of vehicles will be allowed to purchase fuel under an odd–even number plate system from tomorrow (March 19), says Managing Director of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC), Dr. Mayura Neththikumarage. Accordingly, vehicles with number plates ending in 0, 2, 4, 6, and 8 will receive fuel on even-numbered days while vehicles with number plates ending in 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9 will receive fuel on odd-numbered days. In the backdrop of the ongoing Middle East conflict, measures are being taken to conserve fuel stocks in the country. As a part of this, the government reintroduced the QR code system for obtaining fuel starting from March 16. WhatsApp hotline to report QR code Issues Meanwhile, a new WhatsApp number has been introduced for individuals experiencing issues obtaining the QR code required for fuel allocations. Complaints can be submitted via 076 000 1919. Advisor to the Ministry of Digital Economy – Sumudu Ratnayake, stated that submissions must clearly include the vehicle number, along with a clear photograph of the National Identity Card, driving licence, or passport. Photographs of the vehicle revenue licence and registration certificate should also be provided. Ratnayake added that several additional WhatsApp numbers will be introduced today (March 18) to streamline the process.
