The Sri Lanka Navy has categorically rejected claims circulating in foreign media that the Iranian warship, which met with a disaster approximately 40 nautical miles from Sri Lanka, was sunk as a result of an attack. Navy Spokesperson Commander Buddhika Sampath made this statement while addressing a special press briefing held today (04) by the Sri Lanka Navy regarding the incident involving the Iranian vessel. “According to the information we received, when we arrived at the location of the incident, all we observed was a large oil slick. Therefore, it can be stated that the vessel has sunk. However, Sri Lanka has so far rescued 32 individuals who were on board the ship and admitted them to the Karapitiya Hospital in Galle. Further details can only be provided after obtaining information from them,” he said.
