Gazette on CEB’s dissolution, to be issued on Feb. 28

Employees who have applied for the Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS) of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) state that the CEB Chairman has confirmed the Gazette notification announcing the dissolution of the Board will be issued on Feb. 28. They had been further informed that the Government will ensure that compensation payments to employees who choose retirement, will be disbursed without complications. According to the employees, the solid decision to dissolve the CEB at the end of this month will safeguard the future of those who applied for the VRS and bring an end to the prolonged uncertainty that has prevailed. Although 2,173 employees initially applied to retire under the scheme, 20 have since withdrawn their applications. Accordingly, approval has been granted for 2,153 employees to retire voluntarily.
