GMOA gives Health Minister 48 hours before stepping up trade union action

2026-01-28 - 15:24

The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) says it will intensify its trade union action after the next 48 hours if there is no meaningful intervention to resolve doctors’ issues, for which trade union action is currently underway. The GMOA’s Central Committee met today (28), during which the Executive Committee was vested with full authority to decide on future action. Several decisions were taken at today’s Central Committee meeting, including a decision to continue the ongoing trade union action without interruption. It was also decided that doctors will no longer issue prescriptions advising patients to purchase medicines from outside hospitals when such medicines are unavailable within hospital pharmacies, and that they will refrain from participating in health camps organised by political groups. In addition, the Central Committee of the GMOA decided not to participate in the opening of newly constructed wards and units at hospitals where there is an insufficient number of doctors.
