GMOA’s 48-hr deadline for govt. ends today

2026-01-30 - 06:09

The 48-hour deadline set by the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) for the government to address its demands expires today (Jan. 30). GMOA Media Spokesman – Dr. Chamil Wijesinghe said that since no satisfactory response was received, the Executive Committee of GMOA will convene today to decide on future actions. “As the GMOA, we have consistently undertaken trade union actions to demand justice,” Dr. Wijesinghe stated. He further noted, “We requested discussions to find solutions within a specific timeframe, but the government has not shown flexibility. The 48-hour period granted to the Health Minister to intervene by the Central Committee has ended today. If this issue remains unresolved, the Central Committee has vested full authority in the Executive Committee to take necessary decisions. Accordingly, we will soon inform the country of how future actions will proceed.” Related News: GMOA gives Health Minister 48 hours before stepping up trade union action
