Guidelines issued on fuel and energy conservation for public sector

2026-03-24 - 05:14

The Commissioner General of Essential Services has issued a comprehensive set of guidelines on the prudent use of fuel and energy to all Ministry Secretaries and heads of government institutions. The guidelines, issued yesterday (March 23), come amid concerns over potential disruptions to fuel imports due to the escalating conflict in the Middle East. Public officials have been urged to act responsibly and set an example to the public, while extending maximum support towards national energy conservation and security efforts. Key measures outlined include: Using public transport or staff transport instead of individual vehicles. Conducting meetings and discussions via online platforms. Sharing documents through email or WhatsApp. Maximizing the use of skylights. Using electric fans instead of air conditioners where possible. Maintaining air conditioner temperatures at 26°C or above, and switching them off for 1-2 hours while keeping windows open in the morning. Switching off street lighting, except in high-security and protected areas. Use staircases instead of elevators whenever feasible. If technical facilities are available, obtain services online without calling staff to the office. Keeping offices closed after official working hours and during weekends.
