An Indian delegation, including the Governor of Madhya Pradesh, Mangubhai Patel, and the Deputy Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Chowna Mein, arrived in Sri Lanka this afternoon (09) to facilitate the return of the historic Devni Mauri Sri Sarvagna Relics to India. The Indian delegation was received at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake by Deputy Minister of Mass Media, Dr Kaushalya Ariyaratne. Accordingly, the delegation will oversee the return of the Devni Mauri Sri Sarvagna Relics to India on 11 February. As a result of discussions held between President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the latter’s visit to Sri Lanka, and with the intervention of the Indian Prime Minister and the full patronage of the Government of India, the Devni Mauri Sri Sarvagna Relics were brought to Sri Lanka on 04 February and enshrined at the Gangaramaya Temple in Hunupitiya, Colombo. From 05 to 11 February, the public has been given the opportunity to venerate the Sri Sarvagna Relics around the clock, 24 hours a day. These Sarvagna Relics, which had been kept under strict security at the Baroda Museum in India, had never previously been taken outside India. It is therefore of special significance that the people of Sri Lanka have been granted the opportunity, for the first time, to behold and venerate these sacred Sri Sarvagna Relics.
