Iran confirms assasination of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei

Iranian state media have, for the first time, revealed that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has been assassinated. Iranian media have also reported that the Supreme Leader’s daughter, son-in-law and grandson were killed in the attack. Iran’s Fars News Agency reported that Khamenei was assassinated in his office yesterday while carrying out his official duties. Meanwhile, Iranian media reports that a 40-day period of public mourning is to be declared in the country due to Khamenei’s assassination. Earlier, the Israeli Prime Minister and the US President had commented that Ali Khamenei had been assassinated, but Iran had denied it.
