Iran has assured Sri Lanka of its full support in the event of an energy or oil shortage. At a press conference held at the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Colombo, Iranian Ambassador Dr. Alireza Delkhosh reiterated Iran’s commitment to its bilateral relationship with Sri Lanka and emphasized continued cooperation between the two countries. He also emphasized Iran’s willingness to support Sri Lanka in times of need and highlighted the importance of maintaining strong and cooperative relations between the two countries. He said this in response to concerns raise over Sri Lanka’s energy security should the prevailing geopolitical situation worsens. “Definitely your answer is yes,” he said. “Sri Lanka is our friend country. As I told you, Hormuz trade is not closed to our friend countries’ vessels. Because of that, Iran always is ready to provide all necessities of friendly countries like Sri Lanka.” He also emphasized that Iran remains prepared to supply oil and other essential goods if Sri Lanka makes a formal request, underlining Tehran’s commitment to supporting Colombo during times of difficulty. “In any case, if Sri Lanka demands oil or any other necessary goods, Iran will supply and provide these goods to Sri Lanka,” the ambassador said. “We don’t want to see Sri Lanka in trouble, and the nation of Sri Lanka is very esteemed and respected by Iran.”
