The sinking of the Iranian naval vessel Iris Dena following a torpedo attack launched by a United States submarine near Sri Lanka’s maritime boundary has drawn significant international attention. Commenting on the incident, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stressed that the United States carried out the attack without any prior warning. He also warned that the United States would deeply regret attacking a vessel that had travelled to the region as a special guest of India. However, according to foreign media reports, the Iranian Foreign Minister stated that around 130 sailors were on board the vessel at the time of the attack. Foreign policy analysts have expressed the view that the incident could have serious implications for regional security and diplomatic relations.
