Kumara Jayakody ordered to appear before court

The Colombo High Court has ordered Kumara Jayakody to appear before the court on March 27 over allegations of large-scale corruption. The order was issued by High Court Judge Rashantha Godawela, in connection with a case filed under 02 indictments by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC). The case relates to allegations that Jayakody committed corruption amounting to more than Rs. 8.8 million, allegedly during his tenure as Procurement Manager of Lanka Fertiliser Company around 11 years ago. The CIABOC has filed the case under Section 70(b) of the Bribery Act, charging him with the offence of corruption. The case includes 21 witnesses and 29 items of evidence. The court has also issued notice to the CIABOC to appear before the court when the case is taken up on the same day.
