Maithree Wickremesinghe summoned before FCID

Prof. Maithree Wickremesinghe, wife of former President Ranil Wickremesinghe, has been summoned to appear before the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) of Criminal Investigation Department on Feb. 20. The CID informed the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court of the summons when the case against former president Wickremesinghe was taken up today (Feb. 18) The case alleges that former President Ranil Wickremesinghe misused approximately Rs. 16.9 million in public funds to attend Prof. Maithree Wickremesinghe’s graduation ceremony in London during an official visit in 2023. Former Presidential Secretary Saman Ekanayake, who was in remand prison as second suspect of the case, was released on bail today. Related News : Saman Ekanayake granted bail (Update)
