The Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka states that SriLankan Airlines and FitsAir have decided to temporarily suspend flights operating to destinations in the Middle East and neighbouring countries, as well as those using the region’s airspace. Accordingly, passengers planning to travel to those destinations are advised to contact their travel agent or airline and obtain updated information on their flights before arriving at the airport. This decision has been taken due to the current war-like situation in the Middle East and surrounding region, which has led to the closure of the relevant airspace. The Authority further notes that a special programme, led by the Director General of Civil Aviation and Chief Executive Officer Captain Daminda Rambukwella, is being implemented to facilitate aircraft departing from and arriving in Sri Lanka, as well as passengers. It also states that Mattala Airport has been prepared to handle any required diversions, if necessary, and urges the public not to create unnecessary panic. Meanwhile, foreign media reports that Dubai Airport has suspended all flight operations until further notice.
