Navy brings seized multi-day fishing vessel & 123kg heroin to Dikkowita

Deputy Minister of Defence – Aruna Jayasekara stated that nearly 123 kg of heroin were found aboard a multi-day fishing vessel intercepted by the Sri Lanka Navy in the seas south of Dondra. The vessel was brought to Dikkowita Fisheries Harbour this morning (March 16), and the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) confirmed the stock as narcotics following an inspection. The Deputy Minister noted that the estimated street value of the haul is nearly Rs. 03 billion. The fishing vessel had been intercepted by the Navy yesterday (March 15). During the inspection, authorities discovered 06 sacks containing heroin, weighing a total of 123 kg. In addition, 05 suspects on board were also taken into custody by the Navy and subsequently arrested by the PNB after the vessel docked at Dikkowita Harbour. Meanwhile, the Deputy Minister also revealed that the Sri Lanka Navy has detained another multi-day fishing vessel suspected of transporting narcotics in the seas off Beruwala.
