Nestlé Lanka PLC, the “Good Food, Good Life” company, which began operations as a trading business in 1906, is celebrating its 120th anniversary this year. Nestlé Lanka has grown into a leading food and beverage company in Sri Lanka, manufacturing over 90% of the products it sells locally. Speaking at a media briefing held yesterday (March 10), Chairman and Managing Director – Bernie Stefan said that over the decades, the company has focused on supporting individuals and families by offering tastier and nutritious food choices that cater to local nutritional needs from birth to old age. He noted that by working closely with local dairy and coconut farmers, the company continues to strengthen livelihoods through long-term partnerships, skills development, and responsible sourcing, contributing significantly to the local economy. “This milestone reflects not only the longevity of our business, but the trust generations of Sri Lankan families have placed in us and the strong partnerships we have built across the country,” Stefan said. He also emphasized that the company will continue to enrich the lives of Sri Lankans by responsibly delivering high-quality products in the years ahead. Nestlé Lanka also promotes healthy and active lifestyles through the sponsorship of sporting activities by brands such as NESTOMALT and MILO. Beyond its products, the company’s impact extends to communities across the country through sustainability initiatives. The company also plays a significant role in supporting environmental protection initiatives as part of its responsible corporate operations. Guided by its ambition to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, Nestlé Lanka has integrated sustainability into its operations. Among its key milestones are the switch from plastic to paper straws in aseptic beverage cartons in 2019, and the use of 100% renewable electricity at its modern manufacturing facility in Kurunegala. Looking ahead, Nestlé Lanka aims to become 100% plastic neutral by 2026.
