The National Police Commission (NPC) has directed the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) in charge of the Colombo Division to investigate allegations that the Kollupitiya Police failed to conduct a proper inquiry into an assault and the alleged theft of several million rupees at Casino Marina in Colombo. According to reports, the directive follows an extensive inquiry by the NPC into a complaint filed by a resident of Ratnapura, who alleged that he had been subjected to injustice by several individuals, including Casino Marina owner Ravi Wijeratne. The individual who claims to have been aggrieved by the incident has also informed the President. Accordingly, Director (Public Relations) of the Presidential Secretariat – M.H. Premathilaka, acting on behalf of the Secretary to the President, has instructed the DIG, Colombo, to examine the incident and submit a comprehensive report without delay. In his complaint to the NPC, the Ratnapura resident stated that the incident occurred in July 2023, during which he was allegedly assaulted by several individuals, including the casino owner, and subsequently, he had to be hospitalized for medical treatment. He further alleged that although a complaint was lodged with the Kollupitiya Police, the then-OIC failed to take the necessary investigative action.
