Pakistan warns it may be drawn into Iran conflict

2026-03-06 - 03:26

Foreign Minister of Pakistan – Ishaq Dar, has stated that in a context of intensified Iranian retaliation against American bases in the Gulf region, including Saudi Arabia, Pakistan will be forced to join the war against Iran, albeit reluctantly. He explained that this possibility arises due to a strategic mutual defence agreement signed between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. Accordingly, Dar said he had warned the Foreign Minister of Iran – Abbas Araghchi, against launching attacks on Saudi Arabia. Under the terms of the Pak–Saudi Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement, any act of aggression against one country would be considered an act of aggression against both. Quoting a conversation held with Araghchi on Feb. 28, Dar stated that he had made it clear to the Iranian side that such a defence agreement exists between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
