Parcel containing live ammunition recovered in Wattala

A parcel containing live ammunition has been taken into police custody at Gala Junction, Wattala. The Western Province North Crime Division said the package was recovered during an operation carried out following a tip-off. According to the Police, the parcel contained 04 T-56 live rounds, 04 revolver rounds, 02 pistol rounds, and 11 SIM cards of different types. A 35-year-old former army soldier from Polpagoda, Yakkalamulla area, has been arrested in connection with the parcel. Investigations have revealed that both day and open warrants had been issued by the courts in the Galnewa, Kalthota, and Elpitiya police divisions against the suspect. A 72-hour detention order is to be obtained for further investigation into the suspect. Further investigations are underway.
