The Government has reportedly decided that patients attending government hospital clinics will now receive medication sufficient for 02 months at a time. The new measure is scheduled to be implemented from this week. Previously, patients were issued medicines for one month only. Deputy Minister of Health – Dr. Hansaka Wijemuni, stated that the decision was taken in view of the current situation in the country, with relevant authorities instructed to implement the new arrangement. He further noted that the measure follows discussions with the Minister of Health and Mass Media – Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, and senior officials of the Ministry. Steps have also been taken to ensure adequate medicine stocks at hospitals currently experiencing shortages. Dr. Wijemuni noted that although patients will receive a 02-month supply of medicines, they will still be allowed to visit clinics in case of emergencies. The plan aims to prevent medicine shortages and ensure continued access to essential drugs across the country.
