The Electricity Consumers Association (ECA) has launched a public petition demanding the resignation of Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody over a controversial coal tender, alleging the use of substandard coal caused major financial losses to the State. The campaign began in Nugegoda and aims to gather islandwide support before submitting the petition to the President. Reports by the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka and the Ceylon Electricity Board have pointed to losses, while the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) has filed a No-Confidence Motion against the Minister, set for debate on 10 April. President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has stated there is no evidence of fraud so far but allowed investigations to proceed.
