Police probe shots fired at music school in Kollupitiya

Kollupitiya Police have launched an investigation into a shooting incident targeting a building on R. A. De Mel Mawatha that houses the Yamaha School of Music & Arts. According to police, 02 individuals who arrived on a motorcycle had carried out the shooting yesterday (Jan. 25) before fleeing the scene. Around 15 rounds are believed to have been fired at the building and its front gate using a T-56 assault rifle, police said. Investigations began following a police team led by the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) who visited the location after police received a tip-off about empty bullet casings found in front of the premises. A senior police officer stated that CCTV footage shows 02 unidentified men arriving on a motorcycle at around 2.35 a.m., with the person in the back seat opening fire towards the building and the gate. No injuries were reported, and police say the motive for the shooting has not yet been established. Further investigations are underway.
