President returns to the island

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, who travelled to New Delhi to attend the AI Impact 2026 summit at the special invitation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, concluded his visit and returned to the island last night (20). The AI Impact 2026 summit was held in New Delhi with the participation of world leaders, diplomats and technology chiefs, with the aim of promoting the responsible use of artificial intelligence for the benefit of humanity. Addressing the Heads of State session on the afternoon of the 19th, President Dissanayake stated that AI technology should be utilised to promote the cultural values and capabilities of humankind. During the summit, the President also held bilateral discussions with French President Emmanuel Macron, Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, and the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Presidential Media Division reported. A special meeting between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Anura Kumara Dissanayake was also held yesterday (20). Meanwhile, during the visit, the President met Sergio Gor, the United States Special Envoy for South and Central Asia and the US Ambassador to India, appointed by US President Donald Trump. ‘AI Impact 2026’ commenced on the 16th at the Bharat Mandapam Convention Centre in New Delhi with the participation of representatives from 45 countries. The Heads of State summit, attended by leaders from 20 countries at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was held on the 19th. The President departed the island last Tuesday to participate in the summit.
