Private Tanker owners demand 25% hike in transport charges

2026-03-26 - 07:44

The Sri Lanka Petroleum Private Tanker Owners’ Association (SLPPTOA) has requested a 25% increase in fuel transportation charges. Association President – A.M.H. Adhikari stated that the proposal has already been communicated to the government. He noted that a special discussion on the matter is scheduled for today (March 26). “Despite the inconvenience in distribution operations, all of them were carried out without any interruption. However, the price of fuel increased significantly recently. Fuel prices have risen by Rs. 101 this month alone, creating major difficulties for tanker operators, especially for outstation deliveries. The adjustment for the increase in fuel prices has already been made. But for us, especially intercity deliveries, it is a big issue right now. The Executive Committee has unanimously decided to request a 25% increase for outstation distribution, effective from March 21. We hope that the government will respond positively to avoid further operational difficulties, ” Adhikari add
